Using the stick and banging it on keys to make noise, not just hitting it with their hands.

My 10 month old has one but she just puts the stick in her mouth. She likes to watch me do it and will hit the keys with her hands but doesn’t really get it yet.

My baby has been playing it for months now! I think she may have started playing it around 9 months.

Using the stick in a directed way 12-18 months, but an interest in using the instrument varies tremendously. My son got lots of toy instruments when he was about a year old (baby drums, baby guitar) and while he technically knew how to use them, he had no interest at all. I don’t think he used any of them for more than 1-2 minutes. Now he is 2 and he plays with them daily and loves to sing along to songs.
