What Would You Say To A Mother Considering A 2nd Child?

Question

I am a mother to a 16 month old, and I often find myself thinking of having another one somewhere down the line when my first is a bit older, but I wonder if I am enough for two children. I also try hard to imagine loving another child as much as I love my first, and it seems nearly impossible! My first pregnancy resulted in a loss, so I am of course afraid of going through that again. But I’m not getting any younger. My husband would absolutely have another child, and finances aren’t necessarily an issue, but I’m hung up on if I can mentally handle two children and if I can give enough of myself to them. 
Some input/advice/words of wisdom from other moms who may know what I’m feeling would be greatly appreciated.

I say you’re over thinking all of it. I wonder all those things too but we had a whoops and baby #2 is due in August! We are so excited and thinking it will be great for both kids to have each other close in age. We are moms and moms are amazing creatures and you will figure it all out! Go for it!! And if you have a hard time making that decision maybe set yourself up for a whoops like we had... hint: pull out method was not effective birth control for us 🤣

I just welcomed baby #2. Now I am a mother to a beautiful 16 month old little girl and a handsome little man😍. It has only been a few days but things are going awesome! My little girl is already showing so much love to her little brother, I have also managed to give her the attention she needs too.

I felt, and still feel the same way. I have a 16 month old son and I'm currently 28 weeks pregnant  with a baby girl. this was not planned, we liked the idea of not having any more (my other half has a 9 year old son who lives with us fulltime). what scares me the most is how much I love my son, and like you said, wondering if I can love another as much as I love him. I'm terrified he will feel betrayed and replaced. he is a HUGE mommas boy. I'm also scared he won't get the time and attention he deserves once his sister is here. but at the same time, I've come to realize one day he will truly appreciate having a sibling so close in age to him. they will be the best of friends. and I always get told my heart is big enough to love another just the same, and that as soon as I see and hold her for the first time it's instantaneous. its definitely nerve wracking and I often find myself going through so many different emotions about it all. I am so excited to have a daughter though and bring another human into the world!

I have 2 under 2, they’re 13 months apart. I LOVE having them so close. My older one absolutely adores his little sister, she’s 3 months old now. It definitely isn’t always easy, but it gets better with time. The first couple weeks were tough adjusting but after I got the hang of it it’s gotten better. But I would say go for it, as they get older it’s going to be so nice to see they grow up together as best friends(hopefully)

We just had our second at the end of April.  My first is very jealous but I know they will be the best of friends when they are older.  They are 16 months apart in age.  My brother and I are 12 months apart and it was amazing having him there my entire life as my best friend.  He is The Godfather to both of my girls.  I think the transition will be easier the younger they are because they don’t have much of a memory.  They will never remember life without the other one around.  My husband is a few years older than his next sibling and he remembers the jealousy of his brother coming into the mix.

I’m due with our second in October had my first January 5. We planned our second and are so excited. I try to include our oldest in everything. I take him to ultrasounds and let him pick a stuffed animal out that we put a recording of little ones heart beat in. I worry more about older child feeling replaced. I already love them equally my heart melts when I see little one on the ultrasound or feel him move.

They say they 2nd is the hardest to raise lol. I have twins and we are going to start trying for #3. I promise, you will love #2 just as much as #1! I kinda just got thrown into it and in the beginning it was hard for me, sometimes I felt like Baby A would get more attention or Baby B would.. eventually I knew I loved them both equally and stopped paying attention to who got more cuddles and started taking them as they come and it's been liberating. If you feel you can handle a lot and a newborn I'd say go for it. Just remember, sit aside so quality time for Baby #1!

We will be welcoming our second any day now. All of these concerns have crossed my mind at one point or another. Everyone I know that has more than one says the love just comes. It doesn’t take away from the other, the love you have just increases. I worry about little things too, like not being able to give our first as much attention, and not being able to devote the same undivided attention to this baby that our first got. I also spent a lot of time researching age gaps and what would be best. Of course there are advantages and disadvantages to each, it just comes down to what is right for you and your family. Personally I say if you want another, go for it. Things always work themselves out, despite our worries and concerns. As we get closer and closer to bringing little sister home, I know it’s going to be chaos for a while with 2 under 2, but I’m also so excited that these two will always have each other and be so close as they grow up.
