Sister’s boyfriend totaled my car... please help!

My sister (18) borrowed my car (I’m 20) to drive to a nearby amusement park. She has her license but no car, so I let HER borrow it. Long story short, she let her boyfriend drive (he doesn’t have a license and I never OK’d it) and he wrecked and completely totaled it. (I also found out they had been smoking pot while driving). After I confirmed that they were OK, I got full blown pissed.

It was a 2010 Honda Civic in mint condition, and my sister had the nerve to say that it was an “old car anyway, just get a new one.” Keep in mind I worked my butt off to buy it and it was my first car.

So I told my parents about it and they told me it’s no big deal because she’s young and makes mistakes.

I now have no way of getting to classes (I’m in college) or work. I can’t afford a new car right now, so I told my sister she or her boyfriend will need to get a job to buy me a car of equal value. She LAUGHED and said it’s not her responsibility. She graduated HS last year and has been living at home with no job or furthering her education for the past 12 months. All her finances (rent, phone) are paid for by our parents.

Do I have a right to be mad, or should I let this go? Is there anything legally I could do? I don’t want to get my sister in legal trouble, but I’m really upset that she won’t take responsibility for this and I now have no way of attending to my own responsibilities of school and work.
