Reconnecting with my Daughters Father

My daughters father and I have known each other for over 25 years. Grew up together as neighbors, still are. We got unexpectedly pregnant after 9 months of dating casually. He didn’t take the news too well, he was a little absent during my pregnancy but was there for the birth. We have been in and out of court over custody agreements and visitations, have had a few arguments and hurtful behavior for the past year and a half. Last night, after weeks of contemplation and weird behavior from him (weird as in more affectionate and kind towards me), he apologized for everything and expressed that he wants us back together and be a family. Part of me wants that so bad, the other side is scared from everything that’s happened. So confused. Just want to get an outside perspective. We have been getting along a lot better since the new year, even reminiscing, laughing and spending more time together with the baby. All good signs. Just looking for others views on the situation.
