Cerebral Palsy toys?

Question

I have someone in my life with a toddler who has severe cerebral palsy. I would really like to get him a toy or something that he could enjoy. Is there someone on here with direct experience who could give me suggestions? Thanks so much!

Anything that has a thin handle for them to try to grab and hold on too, or things that make lots of noise. My son has CP and we had a hard time being able to buy Christmas gifts because well he can’t move the whole one side of his body, but our therapist recommend the toys mentioned above.

My sister has moderate cerebral palsy. She never had any “special” toys; she played with all the same kinds of toys I did (except maybe balls, jump ropes, the obvious stuff). CP presents in so many different ways, though, so it’s hard to say without knowing more about the child’s condition. However, our family always took the approach of let her try everything other kids would try. If it’s too hard, she can ask for help or find inventive ways to play. That being said, if they really struggle with, say, fine motor, maybe don’t get them a toy that requires super developed fine motor skills such that they would just be frustrated. Maybe something that requires a little fine motor coordination to help develop their skills, though.
