Joint bank accounts with married couples?

How should I feel if my husband doesn’t want a joint bank account? He says “he doesn’t want anyone telling him what he can and can’t do with his money”. I’ve never told him what he can and can’t do with his money. No I don’t need his money, but I feel like when you get married to someone, your things now become both of y’all’s things. Am I the only one who thinks that? Or am I just over thinking?

I don’t think him wanting his own account is unreasonable but his words are a bit concerning. Couples should consult each other when it comes to certain expenses, and his words sound like he might not want to do that. 
I like having my own money, so I have a personal and joint account with my partner. Anything over an amount we’ve agreed upon has to be “approved” by the other person.

I just feel like “my” and “mine” should leave when you become married. You are now one. The money should belong to both of you, no matter who brings in what.

We have a joint account. What’s mine is his what’s his is mine. We only really ask each other if we can spend money if it’s a big amount.

My fiancé and I do have joint bank accounts, for our joint expenses (mortgage hydro blah blah) but we also have personal accounts; maybe a good compromise?

We have a joint account but also have a weekly “allowance” that we don’t have to get approval to spend. The joint account is just for bills and our personal spending is our own business.

maybe you can start off with a joint checking and two separate checking for both of you? it may ease his mind into the idea and show him that it's not a bad thing.

We have joint account and separate personal accounts and credit cards. Though we pretty much only use the joint account anymore and we use Clarity Money so we can see what’s in each other’s personal accounts - mostly because money is pretty tight since I’m still in school.  We consult each other on most purchases, but not all and usually it’s a “Hey, I’m spending $40 on Amazon, do you need anything” kind of consult. We trust each other. So far we’ve done pretty okay.

my husband and I share a joint savings account. it's just easier to save money for an apartment and such that way. it doubles as an emergency fund as well 😊.

We have separate bank accounts and make all our purchases that apply to both of us On a credit card and pay it every month.
