Why? 😩

Why isn't my midwife offering to check my cervix, strip my membranes, induce me, etc? It seems everyone else is getting these things done and my midwife doesn't even mention it? 🤷 I'll be 39 weeks tomorrow and this is my second baby. I know baby will come when baby is ready but I'm so over it.

Maybe I am wrong, but I always thought midwives went the more natural route of things so induction when not medically necessary and before the 40 week mark would not be considered. If you really want it, why not bring it up to her?

My doctors that I go to don’t start checking the cervix until later on. I wouldn’t want mine checked before 40 weeks unless I’m in labor.

My midwives don’t do cervical checks until your in labor and then they try to only do one. They also don’t do membrane sweeps until after your due date. They prefer to let your body go into labor naturally.

Yeah I’d be annoyed! Bring it up next time you go!

My midwife always offers to check but I say no and she’s really open with me and always tells me that even if I were dilated, it doesn’t really mean anything. She’s super chill and laid back and always just tells me that he’ll come when he’s ready. I think midwives just try to let everything happen in its own time. She stresses a lot that my body knows what it’s doing and my baby is perfect. I know it’s frustrating but you can’t rush the process ya know. Just try to soak up as much of the experience as you can. 😊

I didn’t think midwives checked. They want you to go naturally. I was checked at 35 weeks because of false labor and checked again this week to make sure my contractions weren’t doing anything. I’m only 1.5cm dilated and didn’t change from last week.

my doctor wouldn't check until 39 weeks because it can bring on premature labor before then. I'm sure it's just the same. I think it's a good thing.

For the membrane sweep you need to be dilated a bit at least. I’m 39+5 and zero dilated so doctor said he couldn’t do it.

Mine don’t until the 39 week checkup. They said it doesn’t really tell you much because labor can start anytime regardless of dilation or anything else, so all you’re doing is potentially introducing bacteria. At 39 weeks they will check though and do a sweep if I want, so if I were you I’d ask at your next appt. Most doctors and midwives I’ve heard of will do sweeps starting at 39 weeks (only some will earlier).

I've never had my cervix checked till I was in labour and I'm 38 weeks with number 3 lol. I had a sweep with my first but only at 41+4 days so I think most probably just want nature to take its course as annoying as that is x
