Are cloth diapers cheaper than disposable?

My sil said not really they are about the same in the long run cause of all the water and electricity u end up using to clean the cloth diapers.

For us it's a lot cheaper. I've maybe spent 200-250 on nice diapers and covers so far ( baby is 9 months old) Anne may have to spend 50-100 more by the time she's potty trained, but our water bill has only gone up 5 dollars a month tops, and maybe the same in detergent. So in 3 years it's going to cost us Maybe 6 or 7 hundred. She goes through 8-10 diapers a day, so it'd cost me at least 10 dollars in diapers a week. That comes out to over $1,500. Plus, with the help of our good friend bleach, I can use the same diapers and covers on any other children I have, and there's even a market for pre-owned cloth diapers, so you can sell them when you're done with them ( after you bleach them of course)

I truly think the whole "theyre not cheaper after the water/electricity bill comes" statement is easily the most ridiculous thing ive heard. ESPECIALLY when disposable diapers are like $30+ for a box and on average you go through a box or more a week if youre changing their diaper everytime they go to the bathroom like youre suppose to.

If you have your own washer and dryer you will save with cloth.

I use hybrids, and use a free and clear laundry detergent. that way, all of our laundry gets washed together, and hybrid cloth diapers have proved a great investment

For myself the cost in disposing of nappies is enough reason to go with cloth nappies, in my country waste management is huge and the less waste you put into the environment the more you save in both money and protection in keeping our country clean and beautiful. If you shop smart sometimes you can get really good cloth nappies cheaper than disposable nappies. electricity won’t rise that much if your air drying and water won’t go up if your smart about how many loads you do a week

Tons cheaper..Especially if you have an HE machine and line dry in the sun.  Even if not, still cheaper. Plus they are way cuter!

Alot cheaper! an extra two loads a week isn't alot. I just use tide free so our regular detergant. This is my third lo I've cloth diapered. I spent about $500 each on diapers since I got a new set for each but after the first two sold them for $250 and $300/ set. Just stay away from cheap China diapers and they can be sold afteewards

It’s a lot cheaper for us. I noticed no difference in the water/electricity bills. It’s one or two extra loads of laundry a week.

We chose to cloth diaper when home before my daughter was potty trained. I never noticed an insane increase in our water bill or electric. I had enough cloth diapers to wash every 3 days. We even used bamboo wipes at home, so those were being washed too.
