Very confused right now????

Ok so I started my period a day early. I only had it for about 2 days and it was pretty normal and then just stopped. Me and my boyfriend then had sex and noticed a strong odor. This wasn't the typical vaginal odor, it almost smelt as if something we're dead or like spoiled meat almost. The smell went away after about 2 days and then we had sex again. This time we noticed the smell after we were done. My boyfriend then stood up to see if it was my period again, so he turned on the light and noticed a super dark brown, mucus on his penis. I then ran to the bathroom to see and wiped and seen more of it. Also, on the bed was a huge spot where it had came out. The brown stuff has gone away and now I have a discharge with the same strong smell. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this and can you please help me out.
