So I was just diagnosed with herpes several days ago. To say the least, I was devastated. I never thought I could get herpes, especially since I’m in a three year monogamous relationship. My boyfriend did not cheat yet I still got herpes! How?? Well my boyfriend gets cold sores and growing up I knew that it was a strain of herpes (HSV-1) and many many people have it . Many people contract it when they’re children through casual interactions like a kiss from a relative. Well apparently HSV-1 (oral herpes) and HSV-2 (genital herpes) are incredibly similar and HSV-1 can cause genital herpes as well. So, basically my boyfriend accidentally gave me genital herpes. He was unaware he even had a cold sore. Now that I have genital herpes I can actually now give him genital herpes even though he was the one who gave it to me. Pretty crazy ladies! Be extremely careful out there! I had no idea that a cold sore could give me genital herpes and apparently a lot of other people are unaware of this because it is becoming more and more common for people to be contracting herpes from oral sex! It’s even more common in women. So ladies go get tested and tell your mans to get tested too! You or your man may have herpes and not even know it, it is very common for men, especially, to never show signs, but still have the virus! Sexual health is important! Xoxo
