Rocking my baby to sleep

I’m a FTM and my baby is 6 months old and I’ve always rocked him to sleep with lullabies in the background. I’ve read that if I continue to do this he won’t be able to fall asleep on his own ever. Is there any moms out there that always rocked their baby’s to sleep and had no problems in the future. I tried the cry it out method today, it’s the hardest thing I’ve had to do 😭😢 he cried for an hour. Idk if I could continue to do this to my baby.
