Hey guys,

I am currently 38 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I live 1,500 miles away from home because my husband is stationed in Arizona so we are away from family. I want my mom to be here for the birth and I was wondering if an induction to be scheduled after 39 weeks would be an option. I have had a pretty normal pregnancy without any complications (besides being tested positive for Group Step B). My due date is May 21st. My father has been in the ICU for the past 4 months and it has been extremely stressful on our family. While things are going more smoothly with him now, I would like to be induced so if anything were to happen soon to him, I could travel to be there with my family. Is this selfish? It is a very difficult situation, but I am terrified that if I keep waiting, something will happen to my father and I will not be able to be there with him and my family. I want to be induced at 39 weeks so my mother can be here with me and I can travel back home if need be if things with my father get worse over the next couple of weeks.

My OB is very compassionate and I believe that if I explain to him the situation at my next appointment this Friday (11th) when I’m 38 weeks and 4 days, he will understand and schedule me for an induction next week. I am wanting thoughts on the topic. Thanks in advance!
