At what age were you aloud to play outside alone??

I’m from a small Louisiana town where everyone knows everyone. We were aloud to freely roam the town alone (with our siblings or friends) by the age of 5/6. I can’t say I agree with that though. My son is 4 and he won’t be aloud outside unattended for a while. We have toddlers that play outside alone in our neighborhood and it sends my anxiety through the roof. I don’t even know them but I try to keep my eyes on them when I’m out with my son.

I really don't remember ever not being allowed to play outside. I was the only child of a single mom. I stayed at my grandparents while she worked and I remember always playing, riding my bike around the house, constantly being outside alone. When my son was 4, we moved into a neighborhood and he would play in the yard alone. I'd check on him of course but I was never worried. My daughter was probably 4 too. I'm from the country though. We leave our kids in the car to pay for our gas or return our shopping carts. I understand its not the same everywhere. My boyfriend keeps lecturing me on leaving my purse in the car because its not the same here. When my kids get here next month after school gets out, they will have free run of the neighborhood with walkie talkies (gated neighborhood). Someone can snatch your child while you are holding their hand. Its no way to live obsessing over it.

I lived on a ranch, in a teeny tiny little mountain town in Wyoming hundreds of miles from anywhere else. I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t allowed to play outside unattended. My parents always said we were ‘free range children’ because we went out and wandered off and did whatever we wanted and came back in at dark and that was that. 
I don’t have children yet, but they’ll likely be around the age of about 10 before I let them go unattended. I live in a different town/state (and although it seems safe, it’s an oilfield town with a lot of careless temporary people, which means more crime) I’m an anxious person, and I don’t even let my dogs into the fenced backyard without checking on them often. Maybe I’ll feel differently when I actually have them, but I worry I’ll have issues being overprotective

8-9 on my street. 10-13 around my block 14 anywhere in the city as long as parents knew & I had a ride there and back!

I use to be able to walk/bike to my friends house alone from the age of 7. but they also lived behind us. and me and my brothers would walk the 6 blocks to go swimming at the high school once we were atleast 8. but once my parents moved us out into the country when I was 10 that stopped happening

My brother was allowed much younger but my mom didn’t really let me do much outside by myself until I was 13/14. We lived in a small town but we’ve had two occasions when Hispanic men would pull up to our front yard and try to get me in there car. After that happened the first time I was never allowed anywhere alone.

13. I grew up in Miami so my parents were always very nervous to let me go out alone. We moved to a small town in N.C. when I was like 10 and that’s when my parents started getting more comfortable letting me go out alone. I’m in my 20s and my mom still gets nervous when I don’t call her every few hours.
