What is this glucose test I keep seeing people posting about? Do we have it in the UK? 🇬🇧

I’m 26w1d and on my third pregnancy, I don’t think I’ve ever had this test?!
Or even been offered it. 
Do we have it here?

You only have it if you are at risk of having diabetes so family member has it or you are overweight..
I just had mine this morning and only because my dad has diabetes :) xxx

My BMI was normal, no diabetes in my family and no signs of it but i was offered it because i am 30 which is apparently one of the considerations too!

It's called an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). They offer it under the NHS to pregnant women who have a predisposition to getting gestational diabetes. You're at a higher risk if you have a high BMI, your immediate family members have it, you're older when pregnant etc. I've had two of the 2 hour OGTTs because of my BMI, and both of my parents have diabetes type 2. Maybe mention it to your doctor/ midwife if you think you're at risk and want to have it done. It's not fun, though! You have to drink an unpleasant glucose drink and have blood tests done before and after, without being allowed to eat/ drink anything else (fasting).

You are usually only offered it if you are overweight or an immediate family member has diabetes. I had it at the local hospital as my dad is diabetic. If you are low risk and don’t have any diabetes symptoms you won’t be offered it.

I've had to do it because they found sugars and protein in my wee when I was pregnant with my little girl but yeah the UK do it as well
