Is it okay to paint boys toe nails?

Hello everyone, I've been having this big debate with my father in law about my son's toe nails. My son (2years) has an older sister (4years) & everytime I paint her nails he of course wants his painted also. I don't paint his finger nails only toes & he enjoys it. He chooses the color that he likes mostly green, purple or blue. My father in law thinks it's wrong and that he will magically turn gay. I always tell him I'm okay with anything that happens in the future, I'll be an accepting mother regardless. But my father in law ALWAYS tries to take it off and calls him gay. It pisses me off, my husband says it's okay because professional baseball catchers paint their nails so the pitcher can see his signals. Am I in the wrong?
