At what age do you put your child in school?

Does it matter if they go to preschool or cam you start them off at kindergarten?

Here in NJ we have pre-k3 and pre-k4. My daughter did both years before kindergarten and it helped her a whole lot. In kindergarten over here...they’re required to already j ow how to read two or three letter words, write there names well, know all their shapes/colors etc. it’s much more demanding than it was when I was in kindergarten. They don’t even get nap time anymore. I don’t know if it’s mandatory but I know that here, they test you before you enter kindergarten if you never did pre-k to see how far behind they are. I enrolled my daughter in pre-k 3 when she was two because she was set to be three before October which is a requirement here. She was fully potty trained and super excited to be with other kids. (only child ☺️). Hope this helped.

I wish I had been sent to daycare and pre-k so that kindergarten wasn’t such a shock to me. 
I went from spending 100% of my time with adults to being thrown into a class with 20 something 5 year olds and I literally had anxiety at 5 in kindergarten because everyone was so weird to me. 
If I ever had a child I’m going to try to introduce them to socializing with their age group early. I work in a daycare and see the difference that makes.

We started with 4K. She was in a daycare that was an early learning academy and was starting to get too bored and needed to start learning more. They only did a curriculum for half the day so switching to full day school was amazing for her. She’s almost done with 5K now and is way ahead of the expected learning curve for her age. I think starting young really helps.

Preschool is so important! There are plenty of studies to support that kids who go to preschool end up being more successful then those who don't. Kindergarten is not like it use to be and is basically first grade, most schools have high academic expectations and not a lot of time for free play. I'm a teacher and honestly can tell the first day who's been to preschool and who hasn't and it really effects their performance and experience.
