Baby having bad dreams
my 10 week old baby sleeps well at night.. typically from 8 pm to 6 am waking up once or twice for feeding. however, during the day, she doesn't nap well AT ALL !!! I'm lucky if I get ONE good nap. it's typically 15 minutes here and there. I've tried putting her in the bassinet drowsy (swaddled with white noise in a dark room - JUST LIKE I put her down for the night), holding her during naps, placing her in the swing, rocking her and it seems like everything else...
but here is the thing ... she falls asleep and I can tell she's dreaming. she smiles, she suckles the air like she's nursing, sometimes makes little laughing noises, sometimes gets a sad look on her face, let's out a little cry, and then sometimes wakes herself up screaming. I watch her and it comes out of nowhere ! it happens anywhere from 10 minutes after falling asleep to 30 or 45 minutes after falling asleep. if I'm holding her, sometimes I'm able to soothe her back to sleep, but if she is alone in her bassinet, nap time is over !! and yes, I've tried patting her for a minute until she calms down enough to go back to sleep, I've tried letting her cry for a few minutes to fall back asleep, I've tried picking her back up and rocking her, I even try picking her up and holding her vertically and patting her back in case she needs to pass gas. rarely does any of this work if she wakes herself up and she realizes she's alone.
what I don't understand is this doesn't happen at night. she wakes up and I can hear her squirm a little bit making a few grunting noises sometimes with her eyes wide open. sometimes putting a pacifier in her mouth helps her go back to sleep and other times I get her up and feed her and she falls right back asleep.
anybody else experience a baby that wakes themselves up crying/screaming/dreaming?
