boyfriend is uncomfortable talking about sex...

is it normal for guys to not want to talk about what they want sexually with you. he says it makes him uncomfortable and he’s scared of rejection and embarrassment, but i’ve reassured him that i would try and not make the situation weird and awkward. is this normal or maybe an immature thing or something else?
