How to bring up a disability in a job interview?
I’ve just recently turned 16 and I’m looking for a summer job! The thing is, I never had any work experience before or even went on an interview. The main thing I’m worried about is my disability. I have a severe hearing loss in both ears but I wear hearing aids for it. I can read lips really well, maintain eye contact, speak English, and I’m slowly learning to begin ASL. I am a great communicator except if you talk with your back faced to me or you whisper. The question is, how do you tell the interviewee about your disability? Do you just casually mention it in your interview, write it on your resume, tell them beforehand, etc?
One job I’m interested in needs me to email the boss if I’m interested in working at the place but I’m not sure if I should tell her over email or wait and see if she wants to set up an interview then mention something? How do you handle these situations? Thanks for your help!
