Invasion of privacy. But why? 🤷🏾‍♀️

An

Hello everyone of CC I have an off/on topic. It may fall under the category of race possibly so if it gets moved I’m ok with that I guess.

Let me start out by saying I’m black (yes you can tell by the profile pic) but as a mom my kids are different for the first 2 years of life. And their father is a shade lighter than I. (Just back story so let’s get into this)

So I go do a doctor appointment for my gynecologist. Just to do a check on a few things since I had my daughter 3 1/2 months ago. Now everyone else in the office has asked me the same question but they also were around to see the change in my oldest daughter so they understood already. But my gynecologist is a nice Asian lady and over the last year of her working at the office we chat because she saw me the majority of my pregnancy.

So yesterday was her very first time seeing my daughter. And immediately she said “omg she is so beautiful is her father white?”

I get tired of hearing this question but I’ve also come to expect it. Which is sad. But I told her politely “no he’s black too. Part Cuban but black nonetheless” and she responds “Cubans are also dark too right”

I’m like “well it’s 50/50 some are really fair skinned like his grandmother was” so she then asks me “you guys don’t have white anywhere else in your families?” I’m like “nope”

Thinking this would be the end she gives me the side eye about the father of my kids being the father of my kids 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️

So I explain that all four of our children all start out very bright almost white in color and then at 2 years old they start to get “color” and then turn brown like me. Nothing out of the norm but black parents create more than just dark skin or brown babies we create every color.

So then... me thinking it was over she says “ so you mean to tell me that for the first two years of life your kids look adopted?!?!?”

I proceed to have to show her the history line of my kids and how they all have been bright before and then she was satisfied from there.

But I just want to know why in the hell does it have to come to that? Like why do I need to show proof that my child belongs to me and her father? Why do I even have to get the question? Much less by a doctor who claims she’s never seen this before as if we are a unicorn family or something.

Beyond the aspect of race my honest controversial question is why do people care that much? It’s a reoccurring thing like literally when I go to the store, library, park etc everyone who interacts with me says first “omg she’s beautiful is her father white?” When did society become overly ignorant and moreover when did this invasion of privacy become the norm?
