Why Metformin?

Question

At the beginning of the month I went to my OB/GYN and she gave me Metformin without checking my insulin levels. If my insulin levels aren’t high and I’m not diabetic, why did my doctor prescribed me this? Should I go to the doctor and request to get my insulin levels checked?

My OB put me on metformin along with clomid. I have PCOS and we’re TTC. He said that although my insulin levels look good, metformin inexplicably helps you ovulate. He told me they just covered it in a conference he had attended where they discussed it’s effect and their lack of knowledge of why- but they do know it does!

Women with PCOS have higher chances of becoming diabetic. That is because if insulin resistance. All my levels are normal (I get tested regularly due to high chances in the family) but I still have the trait. I look at it as a way to get your body on track before having the chances of diabetes.

I didnt have my levels checked either and I take it. I didnt have my glucose checked maybe 5 years ago which was fine. I believe thats the one they do before insulin, but usually if glucose is fine then insulin is probably fine. I might be way off though...but Im just saying I dont think Im actually insulin resistant. But it reduces MC rates too so Im still taking it
