Experiences Please! Honest Opinions

So I am a fairly new driver. I have been fighting with myself between leasing a new but cheap car OR saving for a couple more months for a used old car. Now my issue is, renting cars is extremely expensive. I turn 25 this year and I live in NYC which means my insurance will be sky high until December 23rd *my birthday*

So to those with experience, what is the smarter choice? Im so stuck.

My credit score is considered poor. My payments would be either in the $300-$400 range plus insurance. Rentals for 24hours cost me close to $400.

I have 3 kids ages 8,4,2 and really want the freedom to travel with all of my kids which is the main reason for the car. Of course also taking weekend trips as far as I want since rentals have a certain amount of mile usage.

Im so stuck! 🤕😰
