Breastfeeding in public?

Question

Have other moms been okay with breastfeeding in public? I want to be okay with it but I’m scared I’ll get harassed I see it a lot, not to mention moving to a new state it’s kinda scary.

I have only heard stories of people getting harassed online. I have never had any sort of issue nor have I seen others given problems for breastfeeding in public where I live (US).

If I have the option of going to the car, a changing room, or a mother's room instead of using a cover or feeding without a cover, I will go to privacy. But when baby is hungry, baby is hungry. I've fed her a few times in public with a cover and no one has said anything to me. Once I was even walking down the street downtown where I live! (SC in the USA)

My baby’s comfort is more important than anyone else’s. That’s the way I look at it. I use a milk snob cover and do my best to be discreet. I feed my son when he’s hungry wherever we are.

I feel my daughter out in public without a cover! My baby is hungry, of course I'm gonna feed her! I've gotten a couple looks but never anyone saying anything. Actually, a few women have said thank you for nursing in public! If anyone has a problem with it, then don't look. If they could eat in the bathroom or with a cover on their head, then go for it but my daughter wont😊

I’m a little nervous about it, so I bought a milk snob cover! It’s fantastic because it offers 360 coverage so there’s no way baby can kick it off and expose me. It can also be used as a car seat, high chair, and shopping cart cover 👍🏼

I honestly have no issue with other moms doing it but I can't bring myself to do it either. if I'm out and about and my baby gets hungry I usually go to the car and feed her in there. Not to mention I live in Florida, and it's extremely hot out so it's more comfortable in my car with the AC running anyway.

My opinion is to feed where you are comfortable, within reason. Breastfeeding in public is completely fine (I do) but have a cover handy, I don't breastfeed uncovered if there are children I don't know around. Adults can look or not look or leave, I don't feel like it's my place to make decisions for other people's kids. (Just my comfort level) Also, look up breastfeeding laws where you live, NC fully protects breastfeeding, even with nip-slips related to breastfeeding. Other states may not.

I was very nervous about it and almost always pumped bottles for being in public his first month. But then that would put me off schedule and my boobs would be ON FIRE by the time I got home. I finally decided that I was sick to death of being miserable when there was absolutely no reason for it. He's with me 24/7 and I have the perfect food at the perfect temperature ready for him. If people don't like it or get a little side boob action, that's THEIR problem. Feeding my baby is my priority. I wear nursing tops from Latched Mama when we go out and you can barely tell I'm nursing him. It was such a freeing feeling the first time he fussed and I just latched him right on in public!

I use a cover but that’s my choice. I wouldn’t be flashing my boobs for anyone if I wasn’t breastfeeding so don’t feel comfortable with it. I like the cover and he doesn’t mind it.
