Babyshower for adoption?

I’m adopting a newborn baby in December when she is born. Her biological mom is actually one of my really good friends, but she has three kids and didn’t want this one but found out too late to have an abortion. We are both 22.

Today my mom asked me if I wanted to have a baby shower and I said yes because I thought it would be a cool idea. I went and talked to my other friends about it and they were so confused about why I would have a baby shower for a baby I’m not carrying. Now I don’t know if it is such a good idea.
