When to start on the nursery?

My mother advised not to buy anything until after the baby shower, but I am worried a month won't be enough time to put the nursery together. I am 16 weeks and already wanting to start working on it

We started the nursery at 5weeks starting with the crib, then the nursery rocker and ottoman, then the dresser and rug. I personally think you s huh old start whenever you want, especially for nursery furniture as you typically buy that yourself, unless you know your family will buy the specific piece your wanting.

Start buying furniture for the nursery, everything is expensive & does add up.
Start buying things like crib, bassinet, change table, nursing chair & drawers 
Everything else can be left for the registry if you gave one

we have a lot to do, like electrical, windows, dry wall...
I bought a dresser, chair and crib (my mother in law bought early as our gift).
I can't wait until my shower for that stuff but everything else I'm going to wait until after my shower

We finished ours for the most part, I'm 24.3. My shower isn't until I'm 34 weeks and I didn't want to wait till then 😊

My shower wasn’t until 34 weeks.  We bought the crib, dresser and glider on our own because that was just our preference - didn’t want family or friends buying that big stuff.  Other than that though, we did wait until after to see what we still needed.  35.5 and have had no problem getting the items we needed to fill the gaps already.  I think the only things left are a few extra sheets for crib and pack and play, and maybe a few more 0-3 month outfits.  We were really fortunate!

I’d start before 30 weeks when you get uncomfortable. I’m learning the hard way. We painted and put the crib together at 32 weeks and it was really tough. I have a lot of back pain. Do it while you still feel comfortable. Our shower is next weekend but we have the crib now and a few clothes.

I think your mother meant don’t buy tons of clothes, bottles, blankets, toys, etc until after the baby shower because you can save money if someone else buys it. I don’t think she meant the nursery part. No one is really gonna buy you a crib or dresser.

We bought our dresser at 6 weeks, and we had the nursery painted before the shower. Our shower was last weekend, but I’m not sure until July. We still have work to do, and I can’t imagine putting it all off until the last month before she arrives. I need energy to do this stuff. I’d say go for it. If you end up with duplicates, you can always return things.

I started the nursery before my shower but waited until after to finish it. I started with the things that people wouldn’t be buying as gifts, like paint and a ceiling fan.

We started ours at 15 weeks, and had it mostly done by like 25 weeks? I had my shower at 33 weeks and now that I’m 36 weeks everything’s all done and organized! I’m so glad we started early because now I have zero energy!
