3 year engagement?

Has anyone else had such a long engagement successfully? I feel a little hurt because when my fiancé and I first got engaged, I assumed engagement meant it’s time to start planning, and if we can’t plan anytime soon for a wedding ( we are both in school, and he or I would have to move because we are in different states since he moved for his job). Then that means we would plan a time in our life when we WILL be able to plan for a wedding. But it’s been 3 years, my fiancé hasn’t made any plans that indicate he’s planning on getting married, I’m in school, I haven’t told my family we are engaged because honestly I don’t feel engaged. I don’t wear my ring because if I do, I get questions like “oh! When is the wedding!?” And I just don’t know how to reply. My fiancé would be incredibly hurt if I told him I don’t want to be engaged, he would take that the same as a breakup. But honestly what is the point?

First of all the fact that you haven’t told anyone that you’re engaged is probably a reason why your fiancé hasn’t planned anything. First thing I did was tell my parents then his and then we told our family and friends. I’m sure your fiancé is hurt about that. I wore my ring with pride. We didn’t set a date. We waited and wanted to enjoy saying fiancé. We waited 2 years before planning, 2.5 years we got married. Have you stopped to think what your family and friends will think when you tell them you’ve been engaged 3 years? They’ll think YOU are the one that doesn’t want to get married. Because reading your post that’s the first thing I thought was that you didn’t want to get married. My engagement was one of the best and most exciting times in my life. You should sit down and talk with your fiancé. I know my husband would have called off the engagement if I hadn’t told anyone we got engaged...food for thought.

It was almost the same thing for me and my husband I was in school in about 2hrs away (so a little different) & I was super excited to get married that I failed to realize there was no thought of where we were going to live,how we were going to make it and not have a full time job, so I waited until I finished school & then started planning for a wedding while saving as much money as possible until then which you will have the help of him now that he has a full time job. Everybody use to always ask & the answer would say I’m waiting until I finished school. Take it at your pace because you have to remember it’s your life & those people consistently asking are just wanting an invite & party. They won’t be there to help you figure out life after the wedding

I was engaged for about 10 1/2 years just recently got married a month ago.

I was engaged for over two years, I was in school and we couldn’t decide on a date, I didn’t want a big wedding so there really wasn’t any planning to be done. We would probably still be engaged but my insurance ran out so one day I asked him “want to get married in two months?” and that’s what we did. You need to communicate with your fiancé or he won’t know what you’re thinking.
It’s weird to me that your friends and family don’t know you’re engaged, of course your fiancé doesn’t feel rushed, no one else knows so no one is going to ask you about a wedding.
