PCOS and the Mediterranean diet
So, I have commented on a few posts but now I’d like to lay out what changing my diet did for me. When I was diagnosed with PCOS (and endometriosis) I had the following:
15-20 cysts on each ovary
High blood pressure and heart rate
High testosterone and estrogen
High cholesterol
High glucose and insulin resistance (pre-diabetic)
High C-reactive protein (inflammatory marker)
Elevated LH/FSH ratio
Cystic acne/facial hair
80% coverage of my bladder, bowels, and reproductive organs from endometriosis
I also have other inflammatory diseases such as psoriasis. I followed the Mediterranean diet (recommended my multiple health societies including reproductive organizations) aka “the healthiest diet in the world” for SIX MONTHS and ALL OF MY LABS were within normal limits, even on the LOW end of normal! My endo doesn’t even cover 10% of the above organs anymore and I never had surgery to remove it. My psoriasis is gone too, previously covering 40% of my body (I have the rare guttate form). I highly, highly recommend following this to anyone suffering from PCOS. I was told I would most likely never have children naturally, but after getting myself healthy it only took me 4 months of trying. I highly believe diet and lifestyle have more to do with this than anything, as I never took medication. If I were to have a PCOS workup with a new gynecologist I would not be diagnosed, so this “incurable” hormonal disorder has effectively been treated. I had tried every diet in the book but this one was the only one to even touch my labs.
Most importantly, good luck to you all and baby dust!! ✨✨
