Tummy sleeping?

Question

My 4 week old will roll onto his tummy every time I lay him down on his back, awake or asleep. It’s just how he prefers to sleep, and he sleeps good that way. It just makes me so nervous because of SIDS. Idk if I should leave him or flip him to his back each time he rolls over 🙁

I’ve laid my baby down on her belly since week 2. She has horrible gas issues and she sleeps more peacefully that way. She also has excellent head and neck control. She can turn her head completely to the other side while sleeping so that makes me comfortable.

In general if your baby can roll himself onto his tummy it should be okay to leave him there - having the strength to roll over means he should be able to lift up his head so he can breathe. Four weeks is super early though so I would call your pediatrician just to double check! Rolling over is typically like a 3-6 month developmental milestone although some babies are just super strong early. 
Do make sure he isn’t swaddled though and that he is in a space free of blankets, toys, dolls, pillows, etc.

My daughter refuses to sleep on her back. She will either lay there awake in protest after being transferred to her crib or roll to her side/stomach. 
I think tummy sleeping is super taboo right now because of all the research saying not to do it. That being said, if you are comfortable with it, it’s your baby. 
Some pieces of info I have found in my endless research on the topic since I’m neurotic. Tummy sleeping is how most all babies sleep the most soundly. Which is why it shows a higher risk for SIDS. They sleep so deep and suffocate themselves by not lifting their heads or by getting caught in a carbon monoxide bubble that they created and are not mentally mature enough to move out of. Like how some babies will let you smother them with boob when eating because they are just focused on eating. 
It is said that once babies are able to move their heads on their own they are safer* sleeping on their tummies. Most SIDS cases happen between 2-4 months. Also, apparently small infants rolling onto their sides or bellies early could be a sign of needing an adjustment not just them being super strong so some people recommend infant chiropractic medicine. 
I let my daughter sleep as she sleeps best and take all precautions I can. In reality SIDS is just what it stands for. No one truly knows what causes it. It is horrible and it just happens.  All we can do is try to prevent it and that’s what they say back sleeping does. But if it was 100% we wouldn’t hear about it anymore. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My baby has been sleeping on his side since birth. I check him a million times a night to make sure he’s not laying face down. It terrifies me but there’s not much I can do. Sometimes if I roll him to his back he’ll stay. It just depends
