Period after Pill

has anybody stopped birth control pills and had horrible periods? I stopped in April, had my normal period-light, lasting 3 days. now this period has been so heavy I'm soaking through tampons in 2 hours and having strong cramps. I know the hormones in BC make them lighter but this is crazy. I woke up with blood all over my legs this morning before work. 😣 do they even out eventually?? I've never had heavy periods so I'm hoping it's just the month free of hormones that caused this
