Are birthing classes worth it?

Question

Do they teach more than just birthing techniques?  Like do they teach newborn care?  My husband and I will both be first time parents and honestly, I'm more interested in getting all the info I can about newborn care tips rather than birthing info.

I have to say I was in the no camp during my pregnancy but went to them because my SO wanted to. During labor there were a lot of things done that I would have not known about if it weren't for the class, like internal fetal monitoring. I was progressing quickly and my son was moving a lot so they were having a hard time finding his heart beat. I asked for medication for pain and was offered fentynal, which I declined because of what i learned in the class After I received an epidural, I was being flipped from side to side on one flip my son was having D-cells (not getting oxygen) I had to be flipped again and was given medicine to slow my contractions to give my son a break, again this was something I learned about from the class.  Then they realized the d-cells could have been from the my son moving away from the monitor and not laying on the cord so they did internal monitoring. I also had a birth plan thanks to that class which came in handy when I had to have a c-section. I knew bout things I could ask for, like dropping the drape, that I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for the clas.

Birthing Classes definitely taught my husband that you dont just push and a baby comes out after a few minutes 😂 I think it was definitely eye opening to him that there are tools used to help and what would happen had I needed a C Section.

Are birthing classes worth it?
