Pregnancy and work.

Megan

I’ll be 10 weeks pregnant this Sunday. I work 45 hours a week as a nanny to an almost 2 year old, Ive had her since she was nine months.

I’m due December 30, but planned to leave a few weeks early in order to stop lifting her and stay home. I don’t plan on coming back but haven’t discussed this with my employers yet. (I don’t want to drive 30 minutes to and from work with a newborn for 8.5 hour days) plus my boyfriend wants me to stay home.

Well the dad I work for just told me that “it would suck if I was due in October or November because if would intervene with his work.” He works in politics so his schedule gets really busy around election season.

I planned on leaving beginning/mid November, but after hearing that I’m wondering if I should leave sooner so they have a new, steady nanny in place during this busy time. I plan to sit down with them in the next month to discuss my future plans, and if I were to leave at the end of September/beginning of October, that would give them about four months from now to find someone else.

I’m wondering what you might rather me do if you were in the parents shoes, because I’m very confused now.

(We’d have the money for me to stop working early if need be, but I’d obviously love to rack up all the income I can while possible.)
