What do I need??

Going out of town for the first time with baby girl what are some major must have that you think will help with being out of town with your little one?

Answer

I would say the answer partly depends on where you are going and how you are getting there. For example if you’re going to grandparents or friends with kids they may already have some of what you need (even some rentals and hotels). Will there be a washer and dryer? Also, even if where you go has none of what you need but you’re flying it might be easier to rent or purchase some of the supplies upon arrival. Most places have baby gear rental places where for relatively cheap you can get cribs, pack n plays, etc - usually they deliver, set up, and pick up. I would also say don’t stuff your bags with diapers. You can buy diapers anywhere. If you run out it is easy to get more. In general my list is:
Clothes 
Burp cloths
Bibs
Pacifiers
Sound machine
Something to carry baby in (stroller or wearing device)
Bottles if needed
Diaper bag
A blanket to lay baby on to play 
A FEW toys (they’re still little no need to go crazy)
Something for baby to sleep in
Birth certificate if flying

We’re going out of town in a couple of weeks and we’ll be flying alone. I’m for sure bringing the following: 
Because I exclusively pump I’m bringing plenty of bottles and my drying rack.
He always sleeps with his sound machine so that’s coming.
Just in case we’re stuck at an airport or I have trouble getting through security with breastmilk I’m bringing a hand pump and some formula.
He has a couple favorite toys and pacifiers that will come.
I don’t have a stroller but use a couple different types of baby carriers. I’ll probably bring all of them.
Clorox/disinfectant wipes and a couple of blankets just in case were delayed. Baby HATES being confined for too long and loves being able to stretch out. If I have to, I can then disinfect a seat next to me at the airport and then put a couple of blankets over it before putting him down. 
Fanny pack to have quicker/easier access to my phone and wallet while wearing baby in the carrier.

Make sure to bring a couple outfits per day. I travel quite a bit with a 3 year old and now an almost 5 month old and I always pack extra outfits because who knows what might happen and usually end up using them all. I also have been bringing my sons vibrating seat when I travel because it’s easy to take apart when we fly and super helpful when trying to get ready or what not and keeps him entertained and stationary. Another big thing is our portable sound machine. Whether traveling for work or visiting family I feel like the sound machine is a must! Good luck and safe travels!

Bring more diapers than you think you need. Make sure you have baby tylonel and a thermometer. Books and toys for your LO to stay entertained. Most importantly, bring a positive attitude and don't fret if things go awry. Have fun!!
