Sleep Training with pacifier?

Naomi

Sorry for a long post but here is what I’m dealing with. It’s been over a month since I’ve slept well my LO is 8 months old, and has never slept great, but things got bad when he got sick, he is healthy now and last night we started the sleep Sense program. I know it says no pacifiers. Here is what went down.

Last night was so tough, and I really don’t know how to go about tonight.

Here’s what happened; we put him down at 7:30 he cried until about 9:40, it did not matter if we where in the room or out. By 9:45 he was out and we where so happy, and felt relief, but by 10:15 he was awake and crying again, we gave him 10 mins on his own, than went and checked on him every few mins. At 11 he was still balling, so we gave in and gave him his pacifier he than conked out almost immediately. But exactly and hour later he was awake and crying again, we gave him ten minutes, and after that I went in and gave him back the pacifier. The same thing happens an hour latter, and from there the time between wakings got shorter and shorter around 2:30 I decided to try and feed him. He nursed and went back to sleep with the pacifier he slept until 5:10 at which point I quickly went in gave him the pacifier and he was out until I woke him at 9am. He has taken two decent naps today, with his pacifier. So now when it comes to tonight I don’t know if I should start with the pacifier or not. Since he is unable to get it back into his mouth on his own, and seems to wake so much because it falls out my gut tells me to not give it to him, and train him to sleep without it. What are your thoughts?

I do realize that if we go with no pacifier it will be like starting all over again tonight.
