What questions should I ask when finding a daycare?

I have to put my children into daycare and I’m not sure what type of questions to ask or if I should do a center or one of those home based daycares...

I ask about the curriculum, screen time, what kind of food is provided (if it is), and the sick policy (for my kid and for the care provider). Those are the things that matter to me. I’m looking for another home daycare (we just moved), I only look at licensed places.

Ask if they have any cameras or a monitoring system. That way, you'll know exactly what happened if an issue ever arises.  I would also ask if the employees have first aid/CPR training and what their education background is (like if they have a degree in child development or early childhood education).

What's important to you? Do your kids have allergies, if so ask their protocol for mealtimes and reactions. What do they do if there's a diaper blowout or vomiting? What's their policy on other children biting or hitting other kids? If any discipline is used, what kind?-time out, redirection, etc. How many children per caregiver? (Ratios are usually mandated by the state but always ask because some places don't follow)
Are all caregivers CPR certified? Do room leaders or supervisory staff have degrees and state licences? How many naps per day and are they scheduled; will they wake child up at certain time or let them sleep through a mealtime?

I asked about: child-adult ratio, do they close on certain days, their sickness policy (for adults and children), discipline policy, feeding schedule, do they provide food/formula or do you? Etc

I always asked the questions of how do they help with early child development skills. Its really important for your children to be learning skills early even if its in fun different games where they dont even know they are learning

Just go to different daycares and the directors will show you around the classrooms to meet the teachers and give your a tour of the building. Ask how many kids are typically in the classroom  and ask if they follow a curriculum. Get a feel of the directors and the teachers and choose one that feels right.
