Do you agree with the UK's knife control? Having citizens prove that their knives are for culinary purposes?

Sorry for note making this a question.

More crimes are being committed with knives so this judge ruled to have people prove their knives will only be used for culinary purposes as well as having people bring in their sharp knive to be blunted. This draconian and overreaching into people's lives. I learned in culinary class that blunt knives are actually more dangerous than sharp knives because of the increased amount of force being used to cut into food which could lead to really deep cuts and wounds.

One judge said this, i doubt it will happen. Im just waiting for some americans to use this as an argument for guns, because apparently they are both the same 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

It’s just one judges idea. It’s not actually policy. I doubt it will go anywhere. 
It doesn’t seem practical since unlike guns, knives are multipurpose.

The atricle says that lawfully bought knives for cullinary reasons are to be blunted...doesn’t that defeat the purpose of  the knife...?

As a pastry chef, I can tell you I use 8” knives DAILY. Since I’m so used to using them for work, I could not function at home in the kitchen without a good chef’s knife honestly.

The thing is with knife crime in the uk is that it’s gang and drug related. You don’t have your average middle class four bed two car husband and father of two carrying around 10 inch knives for protection. It’s the way they’ve implemented law changes with acid because of the outbreaks. Criminals in the sense of dealers and gangs are going to find a way because they’re criminal and it’s usually their main source of income. But do I believe that carrying round machetes should be banned? Yes. You don’t need those damn things. But ordinary kitchen knives? Well if it’s your profession it’s difficult then, but there’s no need for your average joe to be carrying them round (I mean unless they’re freshly bought). To really deal with the issues of knife crime and acid attacks you need to target the causes, you need to invest in youth centres and employment opportunities as well as providing decent mental health care to deter people from these crimes

In reality, they need to focus more on how drug crimes and cuts to police funding has contributed to rise in knife crime
