blood type can cause miscarriage??

has anyone heard of miscarrying because of your blood type? I heard this on TV just can't believe it....

Yes, it’s not the first pregnancy, but subsequent ones that it can cause miscarriage. After the first pregnancy a bit of the babies blood mixes with the mothers, and if the mother is Rh- she will start to produce antibodies if she isn’t given the Rhogam shot. These antibodies will attack future fetuses because the body will identify them as a foreign invader. I’m Rh- and my husband is Rh+ so we have to be careful about this.

My father’s older brother died at birth due to being rh negative. When my father was born they were prepared for it and he had a full blood transfusion. I think there’s a lot more knowledge around this issue these days, and things that can be done to help during pregnancy, but it is a serious issue.

True but you can get the rhogam shot if you are rh positive. Some must receive the shot early in pregnancy to prevent loss.

This is true. I’m RH- and miscarried due to my blood type and not knowing I was pregnant. I believe it’s only those that are rh-, but I’m not positive. There are shots you get when you’re pregnant that help protect your pregnancy I was just too late.

There can be problems with conflicting RH factors but usually it isn’t a problem until later in your pregnancy. That’s why they run blood tests early on.
