So, my SO and I got engaged today! Nothing special. It’s something we’ve discussed for a very longtime. He actually had a proposal planned during our summer family vacation, but I accidentally ruined it. 🤣 Anyway... we want a destination wedding. Problem is, my family seems to think that we should pay for their flights/hotels. Our thought was more of an elopement with a few people. We assumed “if you can come, great! If not, we’ll have a party when we get home” type of thing would keep the guest list to a minimum. My parents expect us to pay for them, my grandparents and my sister & her family. (Mind you, they can all afford their own trip) My mom got upset when I told her no, that they’re welcome at their own cost. I hate to not have my family there but we can’t afford to pay for us, our kids and all of our guests. I’m really considering just eloping with our 2 sets of close friends and calling it a day.
