What was your experience with metformin?

I’m going to try diet and exercise alone till October and then possibly go on metformin. I just want to be ready if I do end up getting it sooner, what side effects did you have? How long did they last? Is it worth it? My doctor told me the side effects usually have to do with your GI track but also told me some women can deal with them and some can’t... I need opinions!

I started at 500 mg and then by my second week I was taking 500 mg twice a day. Upon starting I had no side effects,but once increased I had nausea and metal taste in my mouth. I know some people get really bad cramps and diarrhea. Thankfully I didn’t get those side effects. I’ve been on metformin for 7 years now.

I’m on 3 500 mg ER tablets with an evening meal and have been since April 6th 2017. I was told they cause diarrhea but(tmi) I’m more constipated than anything. It took me working up to the 3 pills a day for almost a month. Honestly the only issue I’ve had was they tend to cause me occasional headaches which is a normal side effect. Though there’s a chance they can cause B12 deficiency. They helped my weight a little bit but nothing major after I lost the first 10 lbs. they’re more of an inconvenience than anything XD

I had bad stomach cramps and diarrhea for a few days, but it went away. Started with 500 and now I’m on 1000mg.  Good luck!
