Are baby Hand mittens necessary?

I haven’t bought any and was wondering if they’re even necessary? How often do you use them really?

I never had any with my daughter, I never felt like she needed them either.

My son is 6 months and we still use mitts or socks on his hands. He likes to scratch at his head when he’s tired or fussy. Elastic socks work better as they don’t fall off easily.

They keep baby from scratching themselves on accident my son never needed them but a lot of the babies that I’ve had at my job have needed them here and there

I bought a ton and once I realized they make baby pajamas with built in mittens I never used them again. My son would scratch his face up really bad for the first month or two and needed his hands covered at all times but always took the mittens off. He only wore jammies with built in mittens.
