It's not common but depending on how regular your periods and your ovulations are, there are a small percent of women who bleed but are also ovulating.  Some women also think they are menstruating when it's actually just heavy spotting.  The fact is that if you are stone cold regular with no hormonal or external stressors you are extremely unlikely to be fertile while menstruating.  However, MANY of us are not in that perfect balance all the time and thus yes, it can happen.  Is it likely? No.  Impossible?  Absolutely not.

I’m not positive on that I’m curious myself but I have heard that you can still get pregnant while on your period, it’s very unlikely however.

You cannot conceive while on your period, but the sperm can live for up to 5 days in your uterus and cause pregnancy once it is over. Though unlikely, it’s always better to stay safe than risk it

You know you have two ovaries right? So just because one egg has broken down and you get your period it is possible that there is one in the other ovary....

The chances are pretty much nil. A woman can only get pregnant when she ovulates and if you ovulate the day before your period is due you have a severe luteal phase defect. The egg then takes on average 3-6 days to implant into your uterine lining and depending on the length of your period it’s pretty much gone by the time the egg were to reach the uterus. No lining means little to no chance of implantation, no implantation, no pregnancy.
