Should pedophiles who pray on children on the internet get the same punishment as those who partake in pedophilia in a physical (in person) way?

Ca

I understand this is an odd question, so bare with me here..

I came across a Facebook post from a friend of a co worker. I wish I could post screenshots, but I don’t feel comfortable doing so since I don’t personally know them.

He posted a picture of this man (his first cousin) followed by screenshots of a conversation between the 30 year old and his (co workers) daughter, who is 10.

The 30 year old tells the 10 year old how he “likes” her (yes, even though she is 10, and they are second cousins).

The 30 year old goes on to tell the girl that she is hot, and he wants to date her, but they can’t tell anyone.

The dad of the 10 year old girl makes the Facebook post which I’m referring too; saying he wants everyone to be aware of this man, and he is turning him into authorities. Most of the people are talking about how the guy deserves to rot in prison, get thrown away in jail, etc etc.

A few others are saying that because he didn’t act physically on anything, and it was just Snapchat messages, that the man shouldn’t get charged with anything.

What do you think?

Should all acts of pedophilia be treated the same, regardless of whether it was in person or online?
