Can someone explain a courthouse marriage?

So as I’m reading my counties requirements.... it says. Apply for the marriage liscense. Pay $28 dollars. There is a 72 hour waiting period??? Once you get the liscense it’s good for 6 months. I want to get married at the court house. So I have to get married there and then obtain a marriage certificate and then I’m officially married? Is this correct? Sorry if I sound dumb. And do you have to pay the person that is marrying you at the courthouse? Pls explain. I am so stupid.

In nc there is no waiting period. We paid 80$ for the license and then 20$ to the magistrate that married us. It’s different in every state. Our license was only good for 60 days

You obtain the license first, then you have to wait for the allotted time. After the waiting period, you can get married. In your state, you will not be able to get your license and marry on the same day.

Where I live you apply for the marriages license. Takes about 3 days to get. Than you have o think 3 weeks to get married. You get married after the license. That is what get singed be the justice of the peace. You send that in and get the marriage certificate back.  But you have to have the marriage license first to get married.

Here in Texas we had to get our marriage license which was about $75. We have a 72 hr waiting period before you can legally get married but no later than 3 months. We got married about 2 and a half months later in the court house. We got married by a justice of the peace judge and that's when we were legally married. It was $100 for the judge to marry us.

In Colorado there was no waiting period. We didn’t even need a judge to marry us.

I paid $80. Judge asked when we wanted to get married, we said as soon as possible we got a little thing waived and we got married the next day. Usually here in Louisiana you have to wait I think like 48 hours or something like that.

So here in Arizona where I am.i paid $80 for my marriage licence and it was good to use the same day I got it, and expired a year from the date I purchased it.we got married at the courthouse and had to pay $115 to the judge that was his fee.
