Pocket diapers? Downsides other then having to stuff them?

Pocket diapers vs prefolds and covers?
In a few other posts I've heard people briefly mention that pocket diapers leak more then covers? Assuming you are folding a prefold around the baby that would make sense, do they leak more then pad folding a prefold into a cover?
Does using a prefold/cover cause increased irritation since there is no stay dry layer? (if stay dry is important I think I'd rather just use pockets then adding a diaper liner.)
I'm still just in the beginning of my pregnancy but I would really love to cloth diaper and am hoping to learn as much as I can. Your experience on this issue is appreciated!

I use almost exclusively pockets and they don’t leak unless they don’t fit well or LO outgrows the absorbency.

I chose to avoid pockets in order to use natural fibers (cotton, hemp, bamboo, for example) and not microfiber. I read a lot about issues keeping microfiber clean and didn't want to deal with that. plus, I find that flats and prefolds are much easier to clean in my washer than pockets would be (or fitteds or all-in-ones).

I prefer prefolds or flats. I will say that pockets are more convenient, especially for a grandparent or someone who doesn’t know how to twist and fasten prefolds. However, I find that prefolds don’t leak on my stomach and side sleeping baby. They are pretty fool proof for us.

I prefer prefolds and covers. I have no leak issues if I fasten the diaper around my baby or if i fold the prefold and stuff it in the cover. The pockets I have leak every single time. I hate them.
