When is a good time to stop BF?

I want to do what's best for my son, but OUCH! My nipples have never hurt so bad! If it weren't for this lanolin ointment idk if I could handle this. I plan on perservering through the pain. I was originally saying a year but my sister said 6 months and some experts say 2 years. I need some input from other moms.

I thought 12 months but read many good things about nursing through their second winter. We are 19 months now and weaned except for sleeps. My goal is to be done by 2!
It’s hard! So hard! 
Definitely check his latch. It shouldn’t be painful. Make sure his mouth is over your areola not just around the nipple.

I’m planning on switching to formula at 6 months. 
I’ve loved breastfeeding for the bond/snuggles and because I wanted to give my daughter as many nutrients as I could in her first few months and because society seems to really mom-shame moms who don’t breastfeed, but I also am looking forward to having my body back (I can’t lose any weight right now) and be able to go on date nights with my husband again.

How old is your LO? The first few weeks hurt for me, but now I can nurse without any pain. Hang in there!!!

If it doesn’t start to get better soon see a lactation consultant. They are amazing! BF isn’t supposed to hurt outside of the first couple weeks.

The AAP recommends at least 1 year and if mama and baby want to continue that it's great for their immune systems and developments to continue on past 1 year.
It gets easier!! My LO is almost a year with 6 teeth and it doesn't hurt anymore.

Breastfeeding didn’t get good for me until 8-9 weeks. I’m now 13 months in with no end in sight. It get easier. Their feeds space out, your nipples adjust...
Honestly, any breastmilk is helpful to your baby even if it’s just the initial colostrum. WHO recommends 2 years. I say breastfeed until you and/or your baby are ready to be done. The average age that children stop breastfeeding, worldwide, is four years old. Just something to consider since that seems foreign in our culture.

I nursed for 2 years but a good time to stop is whenever it's right for you guys, it's not the same for everyone.

I haven’t started yet but I have read that if it hurts then the latch isn’t correct. I was told it would hurt in the beginning but should get use to it. What am I missing here?

After a year you can just give cows milk so I’d say a year. That’s when I plan to stop since she’s 10 months and feeding less with breast milk and my supply is drying up

I stopped at 18 months due to traveling for work. but after a year I stopped pumping and giving bottles. My work mandated only 1 year of giving me time to pump.
