How old do I have to be to have my own bank account?

Do I have to be 18? I’m turning 16 in July. I always have my own money that I’ve saved and I want a debit card. I don’t want to open an account through my dad because it’s complicated 
I have no clue where to put this

You can open a savings account at any age. If you are are of working age and you have a job you can most definitely open a checking account with a bank card. I recommend Y-12 or other credit unions over a bank.

I believe you could have a student account that is connected to your parents. I did that. But i think i was 18. So I’m not sure how it would work at 16. Honestly, you could call the bank and ask.

For me, all my parents had to do was sign a consent thing, but it wasn’t through my parents.

you can be 16. I had one at 16. it can be linked to a guardians account in case it bounces or they want to add money. it doesn't have to be though

I had to co-sign with my mom to get a debit card at 16. Which sucked because she always had access to my money and always took it. But call your bank and ask them what options you have
