Should I take a test or wait?

I have this very eerie feeling that I'm pregnant. I was supposed to start my period today but haven't and the day is just about over where I live. I have cramps but they aren't my normal pre-menstrual ones. My boyfriend and I have been having sex quite often since my last period (we aren't trying to get pregnant) and haven't used a condom a few times.

My boyfriend is still at work, and though I really want to take a test with him here I also want to take it alone. But then I've also heard you should test in the morning.

Should I wait?
