FREAKING OUT

I was supposed to get my period and on the first day I spotted a little and then the other days that were supposed to be my period was just brown discharge... I take birth control but I’ve taken it since October of last year and this has never happened. Am I pregnant? also if I need to take a pregnancy test at what point should I do that
