When baby is born....

Hello

As some of you know I'm expecting in November and although I am Christian, my husband is Muslim. What are the traditions / procedures when a baby is born for Muslims? I've read there are things to say and do but I'm not sure on the correct procedures. Thought I better ask early so hubby can learn verses if he doesn't know them. Hope someone can help! Thank you xx

Your husband will recite the call to prayer in the baby’s ear when he/she is first born. When our son was born, that moment was absolutely beautiful for me. Watching my husband whisper to our tiny newborn baby, it was really magical. Even the midwife was emotional! 
Sometime after that, the baby should have something sweet put in to their mouth, such as a tiny bit of honey or tiny bit of a date, usually put on the finger of a respected elder male relative.
And then on day 7, the baby’s head is shaved and some people give money to charity based on the weight of the hair. The head shaving is quite nerve wracking, I’ll be honest. Their heads are so delicate and it’s not easy, but actually his hair grew back very quickly and so thick and curly afterwards. And he never got cradle cap either. Maybe coincidences, or maybe not, I don’t know. 
I think it’s pretty easy to find out about these things from reliable sources. I’ll see if I can get a photo of the page in my book.
