Staying friends with exes?

I’m wondering about others who may have stayed friends with exes. How did that work out? What are the unwritten rules? What makes someone worth keeping in your life, even when you didn’t work romantically?

I haven’t found that it works, at least not for me. I’m Facebook friends with a couple of them but we never talk. If you do want to give it a try, I’d say don’t bring up the past when you were together, especially if one or both of you have new partners now.

What do you consider an ex?? I’m friends with a bunch of guys I slept with but we were friends before and then had drunk sex once or twice, etc. I am friends with a couple exes on Facebook and one I text occasionally. No real rules.

My ex husband and I have slowly developed a good relationship only for our daughter. It’s more difficult bc my bf isn’t ok with us being friends

My mother in law and her ex boyfriend of 13 years are still “friends”. He goes over to watch the shows they would watch together and to sometimes eat supper or hot tub. But they also are still in love with each other she just has some major issues she needs to work on and isn’t willing to. But the friendship works for them

I've continued talki.g to certain people because we had a friendship beforehand. nothing to crazy fb friends and might run I to each other in public situations but there were no rules, just friendly with one another.
