Government funded housing?

I'm an expecting young mom. I make about $11,000 (I have minimum wage job) a year and my bf makes about $31,000 (bf makes $600 a week working construction) a year. I live in California. 
Do you think we would be eligible for government funded housing?

I used to work for a nonprofit HUD approved housing counseling agency For the state of Florida. the counselors there would go over your budget with you and determine your eligibility for different programs in the area. you should search for one in California. the counselings are usually free. but make sure they are HUD approved.

*To my understanding* If yall aren’t married, you may qualify for housing assistance because they wouldn’t consider his income. You shouldn’t have to claim his income because y’all aren’t married. However, I’d imagine he legally wouldn’t be able to live with y’all because he wouldn’t be on the “lease”/not the one approved for assistance. 
This is all a guess though. Every state is slightly different and I don’t know about California. Speak to someone who can help and find out your options. Best wishes!

y'all make more than me & my hubby and we get squat lol - we pay around $2300 a month in bills! but we also gradually put back savings, pay all bills in advance, keep a separate bank account for fun stuff, and are in the process of paying off car debt! I'm not sure how, given the income you mentioned, you guys would be eligible for housing..I imagine it would be for someone who makes a lot less than that. but that may just be how it is in my state. 🤷🏻

Probably but I think you only qualify once the baby is born maybe..? I would call around and ask.
